Sports and deep tissue massage

Hands-on work that frees tight muscle.

Fifteen years treating athletes and busy professionals, in a quiet treatment room with a Victorian fireplace. Deep tissue, remedial and medical massage, and stretch therapy.

What it is

Working the muscle beneath the surface.

Deep tissue massage works not only the superficial muscles you can see, but the deeper muscles beneath them. A sports massage therapist understands how the body functions, where muscles originate and insert, and which are prone to tightness or injury.

The emphasis is on active clients, but anyone with a condition that limits movement will benefit. After fifteen years of treatment work, I find the source of the problem and treat it, rather than chase the symptom.

Also offered

Treatment for what the body is carrying.

Deep tissue and remedial

Frees stiff, overworked muscle, increases circulation and speeds recovery.

Dry needling

Fine needles release stubborn trigger points and muscle spasm, often during a sports massage.

Rehabilitation

Site-specific treatment with a clear goal, helping the body relearn good movement.

Medical massage

Outcome-based protocols for specific musculoskeletal problems and recovery.

Dry needling

Releasing stubborn trigger points.

Dry needling uses very fine, solid needles, with no medication, to treat pain and dysfunction caused by trigger points and inflammation. It is not acupuncture, which works with the body's energy. It works by changing the way the body senses pain and by helping a stubborn muscle spasm around a trigger point to release, with electrical and chemical changes that support healing.

The needles are far finer than those used for injections, and many people do not feel them enter the skin. The sensation is usually a dull ache, sometimes with a brief twitch as the muscle lets go. It can be used on its own, or during a sports massage to reach a knot that will not shift.

  • Greater range of motion
  • Relief from acute and chronic musculoskeletal pain
  • Less muscular tension and dysfunction, and reduced inflammation
  • Improved local blood flow
  • Can treat muscle, tendon, ligament and fascia

★★★★★
The best massage therapist I have had. His knowledge of anatomy is excellent, he works deeply into the muscle without it being painful, and you feel completely different afterwards.
